The governed content engine — agents draft, an AEO gate decides, a human signs off
I built a content production line where AI agents draft against our brand and AEO standards, an automated quality gate enforces every answer-engine and house-style rule, and a human makes the final call, so a lean team ships citation-ready content at volume without losing quality or brand control.
The problem
Answer-engine content has two demands that fight each other. It has to be produced at scale, and every page has to be structurally near-perfect for AI to retrieve and cite it: answer-first snippets, clean heading hierarchy, FAQs, schema, consistent entities. Doing that by hand doesn't scale. Letting AI draft freely doesn't hold quality. I needed a system that did both.
How it works
- 01Grid-driven prioritization. Every page's query, citation, and entity data lives in a structured grid, so the engine works on what the data says matters, and checks for cannibalization before creating or retitling anything.
- 02Agent drafting. Custom agents draft and refresh against our brand voice and AEO standards, structuring each page answer-first for passage-level retrieval.
- 03The AEO quality gate. Before anything ships, an automated check enforces the rules that decide whether AI can cleanly extract and cite a page: heading hierarchy with no skipped levels, H1 format, a 40 to 60 word definition snippet, required Key Takeaways and FAQ sections, a brand-mention minimum, banned-phrase and excluded-term scans, and a cannibalization check against sibling pages. Nothing passes until it is clean.
- 04Human review. Editorial judgment, accuracy, and voice, the call a model should not make alone.
- 05Publish with discipline. Schema, in-place URL and publish-date preservation, and a changelog documenting the reasoning behind every change.
- 06Measure and loop. Mentions, citations, and rankings feed back into the grid, so what gets cited informs what we build and refresh next.
What it shows
I don't just use AI to write faster. I engineer the operating system around it, codifying editorial and AEO standards into an automated gate so a lean team ships citation-ready content at volume without sacrificing quality or brand. This is the production engine behind the category AEO results.
